چکیده

This paper describes a noninvasive method for evaluating regional elasticity of atheroma by measuring the minute change in thickness of the arterial wall during one heartbeat. By comparing the pathological findings with the elasticity images, elasticity distributions for lipid and fibrous tissue (mixture of smooth muscle and collagen fiber) were determined in vitro. Furthermore, to characterize the fibrous cap of plaque, which almost consists of smooth muscle and collagen fiber, the correlation between the collagen content and elasticity was investigated for fibrous tissue. Based on these elasticity reference data, fibrous tissue surrounding the soft inclusion of lipids was noninvasively clarified in a carotid plaque and the collagen content in the fibrous cap was also estimated. This method offers potential for detection of plaque vulnerability in a clinical setting. Keywords-Small change in thickness of artery wall; Elasticity imaging; Atherosclerosis

Non-invasive estimation of cardiac wall stress by using tissue doppler-echocardiography ultrasound images: People with coronary artery stenosis

In this study, a method for non-invasive estimation of stress on the heart wall in  the diastole phase is presented using ultrasound echocardiography and tissue Doppler  imaging. The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress on the heart wall as a  pre-diagnosis  to identify people with coronary artery stenosis. 29 patients with stenosis of more than 70%, 30 patients with stenosis of 50 to 7...

Electronic Staining: Elasticity Imaging of Atheroma with Transcutaneous Ultrasound

This paper describes a noninvasive method for evaluating regional elasticity in atheroma in which a novel method is applied to measure minute changes in thickness of each of the multiple layers of the arterial wall during one heartbeat. By comparing the pathological findings with the elasticity distribution, statistic parameters for lipid and a mixture of smooth muscle and collagen fiber can be...

Elasticity imaging of atheroma with transcutaneous ultrasound: preliminary study.

BACKGROUND Knowledge of the physical properties of atherosclerotic plaque is essential when evaluating its vulnerability in a clinical setting. Such knowledge, however, is still difficult to obtain with the various approaches developed to date. METHODS AND RESULTS This article describes a noninvasive method for evaluating the regional elasticity (the elastic modulus in the circumferential dir...

Study of correlation between wall shear stress and elasticity in atherosclerotic carotid arteries

OBJECTIVE This paper presents the use of the texture matching method to measure the rabbit carotid artery elasticity value of the experimental group and control group respectively. It compares the experimental rabbits, when they are prompted by pathological histology to be at the period of carotid atherosclerosis fatty streaks and fiber plaques, with the control group. METHODS We have used ul...

Ultrasonic imaging of myocardial strain using cardiac elastography.

Clinical assessment of myocardial ischemia based on visually-assessed wall motion scoring from echocardiography is semiquantitative, operator dependent, and heavily weighted by operator experience and expertise. Cardiac motion estimation methods such as tissue Doppler imaging, used to assess myocardial muscle velocity, provides quantitative parameters such as the strain-rate and strain derived ...
